EducationI went to CalStateLA for my single-subject teaching credential in mathematics. This is required for one to teach in a public high school in California.
I graduated with a Sociology B.A. from UCLA, and I graduated from San Marino High School.
I went to App Academy in San Francisco to learn computer programming and now work as a software engineer.
ExperienceI taught mathematics in a charter high school for a year (algebra, statistics, and probability) to 11th and 12th graders. While teaching, I received "Teacher of the Month" award.
Before that, I substitute taught for math teachers (including for Calculus BC) in La Canada High School.
I have tutored students ranging from middle school students to college students, and ranging from subjects such as Pre-Algebra to second level college calculus.
When I was teaching, I tutored my students every day after school.
I like tutoring more than teaching, because you can focus on the problems a student is having. It's very difficult to try to accommodate the learning of 30 different students at once.
I have been tutoring for over ten years, and I find it very satisfying to see the direct impact my help has.
I have been told that I'm a very patient teacher, and I am quite empathetic towards shy students.
HobbiesCurrently, I am a software engineer. I like things related to logic such as programming and math.
I like video games and board games. I organize Meetups for video games and board games, so I often find myself teaching people how to play them.
I also like to run, snowboard, surf, play volleyball, and play ultimate frisbee. I enjoy singing and playing guitar.
I love helping people, and I love teaching :)

Richard is a great tutor who is very dedicated and prepared. He is also very patient and knowledgeable and is willing to go the extra mile to explain the concept. Richard genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He helped my son with trigonometry. We would recommend him to anyone who needs a tutor. Thank you Richard!
