Annabelle M.
Private tutor in San Jose, CA
Education
I earned a double BA degree in Art History and Psychology with a minor in Visual Arts from Dominican University of CA with an overall GPA of 3.7 I also studied abroad at Radboud University in Nijmegen, Netherlands for a semester where I was lucky enough to take a couple masters courses in Art History as an undergraduate.
Experience
I have tutored several fellow college students throughout my time in University. I taught an after school art class for nearly 3 years while earning my degree with students from 5th to 7th grade. I also taught a watercolor course at a local elementary school for a semester. At University, I took Psychology of Learning as well as childhood development courses and a handful of temperament courses as well as social justice courses including Psychology of Prejudice, in order to treat students fairly. My final thesis in Art History was on Street Art's evolution throughout societies, while my related Psychology thesis involved an actual experiment I conducted that yielded substantial significant results suggesting that viewing art improves problem solving skills, reduces anxiety, and boosts overall mood (feel free to contact me about any of these for an explanation or if you like reading, I can send you the 90 page text! . . . don't worry, there are some pictures of course). I applied my findings to three conferences, and was accepted to all three: one in San Rafael, CA (regional), one in Spokane WA (international), and the final in Las Vegas, NV (the nation-wide annual official APA meeting). I was also asked to give a few speeches during my time in university: In 2012, I addressed my faculty and student body before about 1000 people discussing both presidential candidate's policies in reference to higher education. I was also nominated to speak on a topic of my choice at the deYoung museum in San Francisco. I found that there is a direct correlation between Mesoamerican leaders and various psychological phenomenon (particularly a certain Olmec and later Mayan folklore that shares characteristics with Down's Syndrome) that suggests that unlike typical westerners, the ancient cultures actually appraised such natural occurrences. My ultimate goal is to become a professor while pursuing my music career so tutoring right now will allow me time to work on my music as well as experience teaching. I took AP Statistics, AP Calculus, AP literature, AP Biology and AP Government in High School and earned 3-5 scores on all of my tests, though I am not sure I would feel comfortable tutoring a course in an AP test, as it has been a while since I have studied the content!

Hobbies
As I mentioned, I am a musician, though I would love to transition this passion from a hobby to a career soon! I write music, play mandolin, violin, guitar and sing. I've been messing around on the bass as well, though I wouldn't qualify myself as a bass player just yet. I love painting (watercolor mainly), drawing, and generally creating. Photography is another hobby. I also ride horses, though I don't have one anymore. I am fairly physically active . . . I swam and ran, and dived for years in HS, and continue to do one of the first two at least 3 times a week. I bike everywhere I can and love hiking and yoga. I actually read in my spare time, crazy, I know.
