Private tutor in San Jose, CA

Education

I graduated from UCLA with a GPA of 3.5 in 2015, as a geography major. Currently, I am preparing for graduate school and am looking to tutor students in the meantime. With 4+ years of experience under my belt, I present a strong tutoring background yet charge a modest rate.

Experience

I am grateful for the opportunity to work as your tutor/mentor. I use the term mentor to signify the deep relationship and emotional investment I partake in when striving to help my students achieve academic success. My primary qualifications for excelling at this task are prior experience working with students of all socio-economic backgrounds, helping students in a broad spectrum of classes, and providing simple yet comprehensive steps for problem-solving. Since 11th grade, I have been tutoring students who struggled to keep up with their class material. My high school tutoring club allowed me to impart what I learned from previous years, but more importantly, gave me exposure to the tutoring process. I not only discussed class material, but energetically talked with my students about their career plans and hobbies. This was critical for maintaining a high level of motivation and morale, as I soon discovered. While I was in college, I tutored students in their lower level division courses on my spare time. More importantly, I joined “Bruin Partners” and worked with middle school students one-on-one. Many of these students received little if any guidance from family members, and thus were deprived of the social support necessary to succeed at school. I prepared for each lesson in advance, focusing on what I believed would have a positive impact on their understanding and performance. During our weekly meetings, I provided the resources and guided them on their classwork. The key values I learned from mentoring are patience, being emotionally invested in the students’ success, and building a healthy relationship so that the student trusts my advice. After graduation, I wanted to continue my career pursuits to be a professor. Given the extra time I had, I continued to tutor. Many of my clients were referred to me privately, but I felt those were not enough. Special mention goes to my experience at Elite Home Tutoring, which specializes in one-on-one tutoring for middle and high school students. It was then that my years of hard work and experience paid off: I could clearly communicate my ideas, tailor my tutoring sessions toward student needs (especially regarding ADHD and lack of motivation), and lift student grades up within a few weeks. Although the subjects in demand were widely dispersed, a good percentage my clients needed were SAT tutoring, Calculus AB/BC, and English writing. Similarly, at Club Z! I worked with students who were from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, primarily for high school courses. Because of my previous work in tutoring, ability to keep students focused and motivated, and flexibility, I would like you to consider me as your tutor. Please contact me at your convenience, and I hope to hear from you soon.
