I'm a Stanford University graduate, former civil engineer, now retired. My passion is, and has long been, to help students challenged by algebra, especially introductory levels of algebra (pre-algebra and Algebra I/II), as they serve as the foundation for higher levels of mathematics required for college. I am qualified to provide support in these subject areas. Please note the following: (1) My service area: southern and western areas of San Jose, Blossom Valley, Almaden Valley, Cambrian, Willow Glen, Los Gatos, and Campbell. (2) Fee: $20 for the first hour and $10 for each additional 1/2 hour (or fraction thereof). There will be no contract, and tutoring services may be terminated at any time by the student, his/her guardian, or me. (3) Availability: -- Sundays between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. -- Other days between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with occasional exceptions for personal commitments. (4) Type of support: If tutoring is requested to support actual classwork and/or homework from a student's textbook, I will purchase a copy of the textbook for the student's personalized instruction & support. I have found this to be the most beneficial approach. If a specific textbook isn't required (for example, for a refresher course), I can tailor lessons using algebra textbooks in my personal library. (5) Cultural diversity: I'm an Asian-American and strongly believe in providing educational support for students of all cultures. (6) One opening: I can accept only ONE student at this time. I'll need to meet with students who reply to this ad and determine which one has the greatest need, as well as personal motivation. (7) Exception: I'm unqualified to tutor individuals with learning or emotional challenges, as I don't have the appropriate and necessary training. Thank you for your interest.
